Travel with Jane, powered by Insured By Us, is a travel insurance brand for women. Since inception the brand has been about levelling the playing field for women in Australia. In 2020, Travel with Jane is taking the fight global by building on its gender pay gap discount.

When IBU brand Travel with Jane officially launched on International Women’s Day, March 2017, the brand announced that its customers would receive a discount on their policies, equal to the national gender pay gap percentage.

Gender pay gap discount

Back then it was 16.2%. That meant Travel with Jane offered a 16.2% discount on all travel insurance products for customers who identified as women. Through the years this gender pay gap has – thankfully – nudged down a few points, yet Australian women are far from parity.

Now, IBU has decided to bring its gender pay gap discount to a close and instead embark on a partnership with not for profits who are active in the space of gender equality.
Supporting women who challenge the gender pay gap

Scrap the Gap

In 2020 Travel with Jane is challenging the gender gap in a new way. Launched on International Women’s Day 2020, Scrap the Gap supports 6 Cause Partners who are active in challenging gender inequality here and abroad. Says Michelle Legge, Head of Community at Travel with Jane, “In 2020, Travel with Jane will donate 10% of all sales to six Australian not-for-profits who have earned their stripes in the fight for gender parity.”

Our cause partners were recruited from within our community. They are active in promoting gender equality spanning all areas of impact including: wages, education and legal representation.

Sarah Drysdale, General Manager at Insured by Us adds “We’re giving away margin to support the campaign toward gender equality. But as a brand for women, we feel that the upliftment of girls and women should be the priority of every business. This is the right thing to do and we’re honoured to be helping to make a difference.”

6  Cause partners

Today, Travel with Jane is proud to announce the first two of six 2020 Scrap the Gap Cause partners. Joining the campaign in March and April is The Global Women’s Project, under the helm of Lauren Ryan.

“At The Global Women’s Project we’re determined to create a world where every girl and woman has the right to influence, determine and improve her own life. Our burning passion is women’s education, entrepreneurship and empowerment and we currently run projects in both Nepal and Cambodia, explains Ryan.

On behalf of everyone at The Global Women’s Project, we’re delighted to have been selected as Travel with Jane’s inaugural Scrap the Gap campaign partner for 2020. If you believe – like we do – in making the world a more equal and enabled place, please show your support by purchasing a Travel with Jane policy during the months of March and April, and 10% of the policy sale will be directed towards our work in Nepal. There is simply no better way to travel.

Jane’s second cause partner One Girl is another NFP that harnesses the power of education to empower women and girls overseas. Fundraising and Relationships Manager, Rosanna Drew was invited to apply at the suggestion of former Travel with Jane’s ambassador, Roz Campbell of social enterprise, Tsuno.

Drew explained that One Girl’s application to receive Scrap the Gap donations in May and June, would be devoted to improving entrepreneurial opportunities for women in West Africa.

Funding that we receive from Travel with Jane will be focussed on One Girls’ Business Brains program, which would contribute toward improving entrepreneurial opportunities for women currently in Sierra Leone.

Travel with Jane is calling on NFPs within the gender equality space to apply for a further four partnerships available in 2020. Applications can be made here.
